Extra problems appearing after the car is apart is the oldest trick in transmission work. Getting a written diagnostic report with a firm scope before authorizing any disassembly is the only real protection against that happening.
Switched last year, mixed experience honestly. Space saving is legit but durability depends a lot on plastic quality, our first cheap batch bowed under weight after a couple months. Upgraded to a heavier duty version and that fixed it.
