  • Why does my curly crochet hair start looking tangled and frizzy?

Posted by Les Marjan on September 23, 2026 at 11:17 pm

The curls in curly crochet hair will begin to tangle very quickly due to the fact that they come into contact with each other as well as with clothes and pillows during the day.

One of the biggest mistakes is trying to brush curly crochet hair the same way you would straight hair. Instead, separate tangles gently using your fingers. Start from the ends and work upward.

At night, gather the hair loosely and protect it with a satin bonnet or scarf. Sleeping directly on cotton pillowcases can create friction and increase frizz.

You can also lightly mist the curly hair with water or a braid-friendly conditioning spray, but avoid soaking synthetic crochet hair or applying too much oily product because buildup can make it look dull.

If individual curls become extremely tangled, trimming those sections can help refresh the style.

Installation is also important. Too much installation of crochet hair could make your style bulky and hard to manage. Using just enough hair normally ensures that it is easier to part the curls and maintain your style for a long time.
