Why do so many ad agency websites prioritize flashy design over actual user expe
I look at a lot of ad agency sites to find potential partners, and I’ve noticed an all-too-irritating trend over the past few years. There are a ton of agencies experimenting with these ridiculous experimental sites with aggressive scroll-jacking, WebGL animations, and cursor effects that completely decimate performance.
I love a good touch of creativity as much as the next strategist, but if I’m on your site looking for portfolio samples, case study stats, or capabilities, I should not have to fight the UI just to get to a contact link. More often than not, half the sites I’ve seen take upwards of five or six seconds to load on a decent connection, and my browser fan starts firing off like an engine.
It’s as if, during award season, the agencies are designing for other designers and not for real potential clients. The best sites I’ve seen on the ad agency websites front end are a nice balance-theyre showcasing top-tier brand identity work without sacrificing speed, usability, or clarity. In cases when your website serves as your main sales deck, it seems a bit pointless to make your audience jump through hoops and put a loading screen up that takes forever just to showcase your work. Do other people feel this negative about over-hyped agency sites, or is the visual impact worth the UX friction?
