• Proper Way to Retire a Faded Outdoor U.S. Flag?

Posted by Elmer Davidson on October 13, 2025 at 8:45 pm

    Hi everyone,

I’ve got a U.S. flag that’s been flying proudly outside my home for a few years now, but it’s starting to show its age — the colors have faded and a couple of the edges are fraying. I know that flags should be treated with respect, and I’d like to make sure I retire it properly rather than just throwing it away.

What’s the correct procedure for retiring a worn or damaged flag? Are there specific organizations (like the American Legion or Scouts) that handle this, or is it something I can do respectfully on my own?

I’d appreciate any advice or personal experiences with this — I really want to do it the right way.

    Thanks,
—Mark sprunki phase 5
