Overheating only uphill and no coolant loss – head gasket?
This has been driving me crazy for a month. My 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero runs perfectly normal on flat roads and in traffic, but whenever I go up a steep hill or drive through the Hatta area where there’s lots of incline, the temperature needle starts creeping up toward the red. As soon as I level out or coast downhill, it goes right back to normal. I’m not losing any coolant, no white smoke, and the oil looks clean. Someone told me it could be a tiny head gasket leak that only opens up under high load. I’m trying to decide if I need to fix blown head gasket Dubai or if it’s something else like a radiator fan clutch or water pump issue. I found Dynostar’s head gasket page and they mention a combustion leak test which seems like the logical first step. Has anyone had this exact symptom where overheating only happens on hills and it turned out NOT to be the head gasket? Really don’t want to jump into an expensive repair if it’s just a clogged radiator or weak fan. Any diagnostic tips would be hugely appreciated. Cheers.
