  • How To Find A Shopify Development Company?

Posted by Jessica Smith on September 22, 2026 at 12:22 am

Selecting a Shopify development agency can be incredibly challenging especially when there are so many agencies out there claiming to be ‘experts’. Simply put, anyone can develop a Shopify store but the secret to success lies in to know your business, your customers and your vision.

One thing I would say to ask is to look past the agency portfolio. A sexy looking store can be good, but doesn’t mean the agency is good. Ask them about navigation, mobile usability, site speed, product discovery, checkout, conversion optimization etc.

You might want to find out about their process.

Is there a project manager assigned to your project?

How frequent will you hear from them?

How does the testing process before launch work?

What’s the plan if anything breaks after the site is live? These sorts of questions can really tell you something about how an agency works.

Integrations is another consideration. Most Shopify stores require integrations with an email platform, payment provider, inventory system, CRM, shipping company, analytics platform, or custom application. A reliable development partner should be happy to talk through these requirements before you kick off the project.

I would also consider the work that has been done that is similar to your project. A company that specializes in small direct-to-consumer stores will have very different skills than one that most often works on larger catalogs or complex Shopify Plus sites.

    3. Communication is more important than many think. A technically good team can be as frustrating as bad communication is.

I think the perfect Shopify development agency would be one that merges ecommerce thinking with technical expertise. It shouldn’t just be about creating a nice website to look at; it should be about creating a store that is user friendly, easy to maintain, scalable as your business expands and that will support your ongoing sales.
