  • How Many Players Are in a Shamble?

Posted by ParTee Of18 on September 18, 2026 at 6:04 am

A Shamble golf format typically has 2 to 4 players per team, with four-player teams being the most common choice for tournaments and group games. Each golfer hits a tee shot, and the team selects the best drive. From that location, every player plays their own ball for the rest of the hole. Unlike a traditional scramble, players do not continue playing from the same ball. The final score may be based on the best individual score, combined scores, or another format agreed upon before the round. Because it combines teamwork with individual play, a Shamble works well for golfers with different skill levels. Before starting, teams should confirm the number of players and scoring rules.

A shamble is typically a four-player team format where each player hits a tee shot, the best one is chosen, then everyone plays their own ball in from there. So it’s four per team, unlike a scramble where you play one ball. That distinction trips people up. Saw a similar clarification at https://thelolajack-nl.nl and it was accurate. Depends on the club rules too.
