Does it matter where I live versus where my employer is based?
I’m hoping someone here can clear this up for me because I’ve been getting conflicting information and I’m trying to figure out my next move. I live in New Paltz but I work for a construction company that’s actually based out of Saugerties, and most of our job sites are scattered around Ulster County. I got hurt a few weeks ago on a site near Kingston, nothing crazy just a bad fall that twisted my ankle pretty good, but when I reported it my boss told me to file everything through their office up in Saugerties. Now I’m dealing with an adjuster who seems to be based somewhere else entirely and I’m not sure if that’s going to complicate things or if the location of my injury or where I live matters at all for how my claim gets handled. I’ve been looking at a work injury lawyer Saugerties NY since that’s where my employer is, but I wasn’t sure if I should be looking closer to where I live instead. Does it make a difference? I just want to make sure I’m doing this the right way from the start because I’ve heard horror stories about claims getting messed up over jurisdiction stuff. If anyone has dealt with a situation where your employer is based in a different town than where you live or got hurt, I’d love to know how it worked out for you.
