  • Choosing the Right PAR Lights for Stage and Event Lighting

Posted by addison barry on April 5, 2026 at 8:48 am

    Hi everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade my stage/event lighting setup and keep hearing a lot about PAR lights. I understand they’re versatile and widely used, but I’m confused about the different types (PAR16, PAR38, LED vs halogen) and which would be best for small indoor shows versus larger outdoor events.

Also, how do color, beam angle, and wattage affect performance? Are there any budget-friendly options that don’t compromise quality? I’d love to hear recommendations from anyone with hands-on experience, especially regarding setup and maintenance tips.

    Thanks in advance!

PAR lights are versatile for both indoor and outdoor events. PAR16 is smaller and best for indoor accent lighting, while PAR38 is larger and brighter, ideal for bigger stages or outdoor shows. LEDs are energy-efficient, cooler, and allow color changes without gels. Halogens are hotter, less efficient, but give warm, bright light.

When choosing PAR lights, consider beam angle for focus versus wash, wattage for brightness, and color options to set the mood. For budget-friendly quality, brands like Chauvet, ADJ, or Elation are reliable. Always use proper mounting, safety cables, and clean lenses for maintenance.
