  • What type of exhaust filter is best for an industrial paint booth?

Selection of a proper exhaust filter to be used in “paint booth” will depend on the kind of paint being sprayed, amount of overspray being produced, and also the design of the exhaust air flow in the booth.

In most cases, fiberglass and artificial paint arrestor filters have been used in the spraying of paints for the collection of overspray. In case of heavy paint, use of multi stage filter could be more effective in terms of efficiency. This is because there is primary filter which catches large paint particles and second stage filter which catches small paint particles.

High efficiency filters may be appropriate when finer particulate control is required, but they can create higher resistance if the system is not designed for them. Choosing a filter with the correct airflow rating and pressure drop is therefore important.

Filter change is equally important. A dirty filter hampers air flow, raises electricity costs for the fan and may also impact the paint quality. The proper filter for a “paint booth” needs to take into consideration the effectiveness of filtering, air flow, maintenance and type of paint to be used.
