  • Need a real-time transcription service for fast-talking professor

Posted by Anthony Fleetwood on April 3, 2026 at 2:49 pm

We got this new course added to the schedule this semester and a new professor came with it. Guy talks at lightning speed and he’s got this thick Indian accent since that’s where he’s from, so half the time I can’t make out what he’s even saying or what I’m supposed to be writing down from his lectures. Are there any services that can pick up speech in real time and show me what the lecture’s actually about while it’s happening?

Professors who race through material like they’re trying to set a world record make it tough to keep up with notes. You could try recording the whole thing on your phone and playing it back slower later, but that eats up hours you don’t have. Some people use live caption apps but those tend to butcher technical terms and names pretty badly, plus they lag a few seconds behind so you’re still scrambling.

Trying to scribble notes while decoding an accent at breakneck speed just leaves you with half-finished sentences that don’t make sense later. Real-time transcription tools that actually understand classroom settings can follow along with the professor and give you readable text as it happens. Check out Hedy AI at https://www.hedy.bot/ . It works as a meeting and class coach in real time, catches what’s being said during lectures and turns it into notes you can actually use without spending hours afterward trying to piece together what you missed.
