Do rock tours stop in San Diego?
I recently bought a condo in San Diego and moved down from LA. Los Angeles had gotten so crowded and suffocating that I was ready for a change. San Diego obviously isn’t a small city either, but it feels like there’s more room to breathe and I’m not battling crowds every time I leave home. I haven’t figured out the music scene yet, though. Do major rock bands ever stop here, or is it the usual deal where every tour plays LA and San Francisco and skips San Diego?

San Diego isn’t treated like a minor stop by every tour, and plenty of recognizable rock bands come through during the year. Some stadium-level acts still make LA their only Southern California date, but the local calendar is far from empty. Keep an eye on Petco Park and Pechanga Arena for the biggest names, while The Observatory North Park and SOMA are more likely to catch tours that skip arenas. House of Blues and Brick by Brick are also useful for finding rock and metal shows during the week.

Big tours and club shows are announced on different timelines, so one quiet weekend won’t tell you much about the local scene. A longer date range gives you a better picture of how often San Diego lands on a West Coast run. You may still head to LA for one huge tour, but you won’t need to leave town every time you want a rock show.
