  • How can I limit or preserve significant figures in Excel calculations without ro

    Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue while working with significant figures in Excel (Microsoft 365 version). When performing scientific or engineering calculations, Excel automatically rounds or formats numbers in ways that don’t always match the required number of significant figures — especially after using formulas like
    , or custom formatting.

Is there a reliable method or formula in Office 365 to:

    1. <strong data-start=”835″ data-end=”873″>Preserve exact significant figures during multi-step calculations, and

    2. <strong data-start=”915″ data-end=”934″>Display results with consistent sig figs https://sigfigs-calculator.com/ (for example, 3 or 4 significant digits) without losing precision in the background data?

I’ve seen different workarounds, but they often affect the underlying numeric value. I’d love to know if there’s a <strong data-start=”1168″ data-end=”1211″>built-in Excel function or VBA approach that handles this more accurately for scientific data.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or best practices!
