In the US model for secondary education, the students in grades 6th to 12th are considered to be in secondary school, but as they extend to the 9th grade, they are referred to as being in high school. In the USA, attending secondary school is compulsory; after completing it, students can either join the military, go to college, or directly enter the workforce.
